New Liverpool food and drink outlet will offer ‘discrete old school cool’

Queen Avenue in Liverpool is one of the city’s quirkiest streets

A new food and drink outlet is to open in Liverpool’s quirky Queen Avenue this autumn offering what it describes as “old school cool”.

Abditory, a seventeenth century word meaning a place to hide oneself or ones valuables, will open in October in Queen Avenue, a narrow L-shaped street linking Dale Street and Castle Street in the city centre.

It is being opened by Liverpool hospitality consultancy Lucky Penny Consultants and will be operated by ex Camp & Furnace founder Steven Burgess and Josh Moore.

Abditory will offer a “discrete” meeting, eating and drinking spot away from the usual branded city centre bars and restaurants. Cocktails will be served alongside German draft lager and toasties.

It will also be stocking a quality boutique wine list along with the occasional bin end, which can be enjoyed with deli boards. Lucky Penny is  working with MgMa architects to create a classic contemporary space that will have floor to ceiling doors and outdoor seating in the summer months.

Steven Burgess, managing director of Lucky Penny, said: “This is a bar that we want to go to. We want it to be a place we are proud of and can bring our wives, girlfriends, partners and work mates of an evening and enjoy a decent drink without the hassle.

“Everything in Abditory will mean something to us, from the names of drinks to the soundtrack to the toasty fillings, we could not be more excited about having our own place in the city centre.”
