A new venue opens in Liverpool city centre that is a coffee shop by day and a neon-let cocktail bar by night. Tony McDonough reports
A new hybrid coffee to cocktails venue has opened its doors in Liverpool city centre.
Switch CoffeeBar is located in the rejuvenated Wolstenholme Square. From 8am Switch will offer a full range of coffees but at 5pm every evening it transitions into a neon-lit cocktail bar.
It has been created by entrepreneur Jon Dunnington, who is from Liverpool and now splits his time between his hometown and New York.
By day, Switch offers flat whites, cortado, espresso, latte, cappuccino, Americano, mocha, espresso tonic, espresso orange, and a selection of iced coffees including iced mocha, iced latte, iced Americano, iced espresso tonic, nitro cold brew and affogato.
For those who prefer alternatives to coffee, Switch CoffeeBar will also serve hot chocolate, chai latte and a selection of teas.
Available for takeaway or for guests to sit in, the venue welcomes business meetings, coffee dates with friends, family pit stops whilst shopping in Liverpool city centre or for those who work remotely.
From 5pm Switch serves a selection of coffee-based cocktails from its global-inspired list, whilst having upbeat music. Standouts from the cocktail list include classics such as a coffee Old Fashioned, ‘The’ Espresso Martini, Irish Coffee and White Russian.

Operations manager Joe Jackson said: “Switch CoffeeBar offers something completely different in the city and we’re really proud to be an excellent coffee shop by day as well as an atmospheric cocktail bar come 5pm.
“Whether you’re a fan of coffee or not, there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes with alternatives including hot chocolate, matcha and chai lattes, and in the evening, you can opt for decaf Espresso Martinis.
“For those who need their caffeine fix, we offer a wide range of hot and cold coffees and with a focus on sustainability, the used coffee beans have been innovatively incorporated into many of the cocktails on our list by our talented head mixologist.
