Sushi brand Kaizen has opened its new outlet at Southport Market.
Kaizen is welcoming customers at its second site. Its first venue was at Cedar Farm in Mawdesley, West Lancashire, which opened last year. Diners can enjoy a delicious choice of 10 different sushi dishes.
They include Surf and Turf (tempura king prawns, spicy mayo, spring onions, cucumber topped with tataki or beef teriyaki sauce); Makizushi (spicy tuna, mango, spring onion, unagi); or Korean Fried Chicken Roll (fried chicken roll, gochujang glaze, spring onions, crispy garlic and pickles).
There is a choice of seven Sticks too, including: pork belly (gochujang glaze, green onions, ssam sauce); Bavette steak (chilli, garlic and ginger, miso ketchup, and green onions); and Panko Breaded Cod (wasabi, edamame, chilli and yuzu mayo).
Kaizen is owned by chefs Keith Taylor and James Prescott. They met while working on the Formula 1 circuit. They have set up in the unit between Pasta 51 Express and Allotment, on the Market Street side of the building.
In the last few days Southport Market has been celebrating the first anniversary of its £1.4m relaunch. In the past 12 months its food and drink traders have served 279,470 dishes, 94,588 pints of beer, 22,663 pizzas and 15,000 portions of chips.
Kaizen’s Japanese-inspired food adds to the flavours of the world at the market which also includes Canadian, Mexican, Italian, American and Greek.
Keith said: “What we serve isn’t traditional Japanese sushi, it’s our take on sushi. Our Surf and Turf Sushi is one example that has been really popular since we have opened. We sometimes play around with Korean flavours too, our pork belly stick has been doing really well.
“It’s all about fresh food, great ingredients, and exciting flavours. We have got a great selection of vegetarian dishes too.”

The redevelopment of the market was led by Sefton Council and supported by Town Deal and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority funding.
“Southport Market is great. There is a really good mix of food, with lots of choice for everyone, and lots happening,” added Keith. “We are really pleased to be bringing in something new and very different which we hope people will really enjoy.”
