Liverpool city region energy retrofit firm Next Energy says it has secured £45.8m in new contacts in the first quarter of 2024. Tony McDonough reports
Domestic retrofit specialist Next Energy says it has had the best quarter for new contracts in its eight year history in the first three months of 2024.
Prescot-based Next Energy, which installs energy efficient measures in homes for social landlords and local authorities, says it has secured deals totalling £45.8m January, February and March.
In March LBN revealed the firm had won a £9m contract with Manchester City Council to improve the energy efficiency of 500 homes. This would involve measures including air source heat pumps and solar PV panels.
Its latest figure for the first quarter of 2024 is a 14.5% increase from the previous quarter, during which time the business won a total of £40m in contracts.
During the last three months Next has secured a place on three new frameworks, which means the business has been appointed on every major decarbonisation framework released to date.
Contracts secured via competitive tender include the Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) for the West Midlands Combined Authority across Birmingham and Sandwell, and first place on the Liverpool City Council Energy Efficiency Framework.
Next has also grown its national ECO 4 capabilities alongside partners Octopus Energy, British Gas, Ovo Energy and E’on, now delivering Local Authority Flex for a total of 46 councils across the UK.
These contract wins have fuelled Next Energy’s growth and have prompted the opening of a new office in the West Midlands.
More than 200 people attended the company’s most recent ‘Meet The Contractor’ event in Merseyside, which was hosted to engage further local supply chain partners and to discuss the company’s pipeline of work with Next Energy’s senior leadership team.

Michael Madigan, director of Next Energy, said: “We ended 2023 on a high note, which then enabled us to hit the ground running as we entered the first quarter of 2024.
“We have secured some really important contracts with some of the UK’s most reputable housing providers and councils, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the wider Next Energy team.
“We have big plans for 2024, continuing on our promise to help homes be more energy efficient, bring down household bills and do our bit to tackle the ongoing climate crisis.”
