£95m-turnover window and door company NorDan acquires majority stake in Wirral commercial glazing firm RED Systems. Tony McDonough reports
Wirral commercial glazing firm RED Systems has been acquired by the UK arm of a Norwegian window and door company.
RED, based in Neston, is an aluminium window supplier. Founder and managing director Mike Green has sold his majority stake in the 22-year-old business to NorDan UK, which supplies timber and aluminium doors and windows to the domestic and commercial market.
Value of the deal was not disclosed but RED’s most recent accounts posted on Companies House reveal net assets of just over £2.7m. NorDan UK turns over £95m a year with pre-tax profits of £6.5m.
This deal will combine family owned NorDan’s long-standing manufacturing expertise with RED’s UK delivery capability. RED, which employs more than 30 people, will continue to offer its full range of aluminium commercial projects both on high risk and non-high risk buildings across the UK.
Mike Green said: “This is a hugely exciting time for us here at RED and a significant milestone in our 22-year history. In NorDan, we’ve found a partner that shares our values, our approach to quality and our long-term commitment to clients.
“I am delighted that we have found a company with aligned values and complementing products that will help deliver industry leading products and service.”
RED will retain a “significant” shareholding interest in the company moving forward and the RED team, including the current board of directors, will continue to be responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of the business.
Through the partnership, customers will benefit from closer alignment between product manufacture, technical support, and project delivery, providing improved coordination, consistency and service throughout the project lifecycle.
The collaboration also enables the integration of aluminium systems and SFS (structural framing systems) alongside NorDan’s timber alu-clad product range.

Craig Greenwood, managing director of NorDan UK, added: “This is about bringing together two businesses that already share a strong focus on quality, collaboration and delivery.
“For our customers, it means a stronger, more capable delivery proposition. We’re strengthening our ability to support projects earlier, work more closely with partners and ultimately deliver better, more coordinated outcomes on site.”
