Insulated panel manufacturer Hemsec has opened a new 84,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Liverpool city region, creating new jobs. Tony McDonough reports
A new 84,000 sq ft factory manufacturing insulated panels has opened in Huyton and has seen the creation of a number of new jobs.
Hemsec has opened the new facility after hitting maximum capacity at its plant in Rainhill. Founded in Liverpool in 1928, the business. It is one of the UK’s leading composite insulated panel manufacturers.
Cyril Hemmings set up the firm to supply insulated cabinets to an ice-cream and refrigeration salesman Bill Walker. Today, it supplies its panels to a variety of sectors. The panels are designed to keep cold air out or keep it in.
The company is seeing increasing demand for its structural insulated panels (SIPs) from the construction sector. The panels can improve the thermal efficiency of homes and other buildings.
The UK and global push towards net zero carbon has led to rapid growth in the factory-built homes market. This sector uses what is called modern methods of construction (MMC). It means SIPs are becoming increasingly sought after.

Investing in the facility at Huyon Business Park is allowing Hemsec to significantly increase its SIPs output. It also increases capacity for steel insulated panel manufacture at the existing Rainhill facility.
Hemsec has also invested in new equipment and process automation to increase capacity and give customers even more flexibility in lead times.
Chief executive Stephen Painter said: “After a very uncertain period with COVID, we are incredibly proud to have doubled our production. It means we are now at capacity at our existing Rainhill location.
“Our new 84,000 sq ft manufacturing hub allows us to continue providing our customers with high-quality products while driving the business forward. This new facility will not only provide more manufacturing space but also create more jobs for local people.”
