Peel Waters secures third and final planning consent for its £18m expansion of an industrial and employment site on Wirral waterfront that could create space for up to 200 jobs. Tony McDonough reports
Peel Waters is to push with the creation of 171,400 sq ft of new employment space at Wirral Waters Mea Park West that could create capacity for up to 200 jobs.
Three planning applications to push on with the scheme were submitted to Wirral Council. Two secured consent in March and the third and final one in the last few days. Plans include a speculative 48,000 sq ft unit east of Wallasey Bridge Road.
One of the earlier consents was for the redevelopment of the 46,000 sq ft Mobil Building and a package of highways upgrades. Peel is targeting industrial, manufacturing and logistics businesses.
This development sits within the Liverpool City Region Freeport. A designated tax site , it offers businesses located within the zone tax incentives for investing and creating jobs such as relief on stamp duty, business rates and National Insurance contributions.
Richard Mawdsley, director of development at Wirral Waters, said: “Securing planning consent for this next phase at Mea Park West is a significant milestone and an important step in bringing forward much needed, high-quality employment space at Wirral Waters.
“This approval strengthens our ability to respond to growing demand for logistics and industrial space, while supporting Wirral’s wider economic ambitions.

“This scheme is also about unlocking the long-term potential. By remediating and preparing the land, we are creating the foundations for sustained investment, future development and high-quality job creation.”
The approved plans will see the comprehensive remediation of a former industrial site alongside the construction of a high-specification, modern logistics and employment unit.
