Port of Liverpool owner Peel Ports has donated more than £11,000 to Liverpool-based charity, The Initiative Factory, over the last year, supporting its work with the city’s most vulnerable.

In 2020, Peel Ports announced its support for the charity, which provides free advice to the local community and surrounding neighbourhoods, and kickstarted the partnership with an initial £5,000 donation.

As part of its long-term commitment to The Initiative Factory, the company has donated a further £6,000 to support the charity’s ongoing work helping make a material difference to those in difficulty.

It includes the money saved by the group as it continues to adopt more sustainable practices and reduce its carbon footprint, including its move to paperless Christmas cards.

The funding from Peel Ports will help the charity with its ongoing work across Liverpool, including debt advisory services, housing or financial assistance and support through sickness.

David Huck, managing director, Peel Ports Group, said: “As one of the largest businesses and employers in Liverpool, it’s important that we support the community in which we operate.

“The Initiative Factory is a crucial local charity that reflects the values we hold as a business. We are committed to helping the charity develop a sustainable future and we will continue our long-term support for the team and the brilliant work they do for our city.”

The charity was set up by the former Liverpool dock workers with the aim of offering free and independent information, advice and guidance to the local community. With its support, The Initiative Factory wants to empower groups and individuals to fight against injustice and discrimination.

Tony Nelson, Director at The Initiative Factory, said: “Peel Ports donation was especially important this year to help support The Initiative Factory charity in helping the community in the city of Liverpool during these difficult times.”
