Peel Ports Group has appointed multiple firms to help it deliver infrastructure projects worth up to £600m across its ports estate over the next eight years.

As well as the Port of Liverpool, Peel Ports owns and operates facilities at Heysham, Manchester Ship Canal, London Medway,  Clydeport, Great Yarmouth and a container terminal in Dublin. In March it acquired a bulk terminal on the Humber Estuary.

Now it has unveiled a new framework that will help it deliver its capital investment programme. This will include work to meet its target to be a carbon neutral business by 2040.

Programme partners include Ramboll, Jacobs, Turner & Townsend, Currie & Brown UK, HaskoningDHV, Pell Frischmann, Tetra Tech, Tony Gee and Partners, Waterman Infrastructure & Environment and Arch Henderson.

This framework will cover specialist consultancy services, project management, and quantity surveying. It will support key infrastructure projects and feasibility work across all group projects and engineering operations.

Projects include the new Gladstone passage outer lock gates at the Port of Liverpool and the development of a 242,000 sq ft rail-linked multi-user warehouse. This is set to launch as a new bulk and steel facility in 2024.

These two projects alone equate to a £35m investment. In the last ten years Peel Ports has invested more than £1.2bn on infrastructure projects, with a further £600m planned in the near term.

Lewis McIntyre, managing director of port services at Peel Ports Group, said: “I’m delighted to be able to announce the award of these strategically important agreements. They will benefit both our customers and the wider ecosystem over the years to come.

“It will allow us to improve our infrastructure across our port estate, while seeking the best innovation and sustainable solutions which will benefit the entire supply chain.

“The expertise these companies bring will be vital for our business going forward, and we look forward to growing those partnerships in the coming months.”

This announcement comes soon after Peel Ports was recognised with the Clean Maritime Operator award from Maritime UK. It is also the first UK port operator to achieve Partner status with the Supply Chain Sustainability School.
