Port of Liverpool owner Peel Ports has donated £4,000 to local charities

Port of Liverpool owner Peel Ports has made donations totalling £4,000 to several charities nominated by its staff.

It has given the cash to support the charities the company has worked with for the last few years, including KidsKonnect, Emmaus Merseyside and Whitechapel Centre, with the addition of the Sefton Sea Cadets.

Sefton Sea Cadets, based on Field Lane, will use the donation from Peel Ports towards purchasing a new minibus, after theirs was stolen earlier in the year, enabling young people to access training and extra-curricular activities.

KidsKonnect, a Sefton-based charity that helps socially disadvantaged, severely disabled and terminally ill children experience a holiday with a view to enhancing their quality of life, will use the funds to continue supporting families in the area.

Emmaus Merseyside and the Whitechapel Centre will both use their donations to continue providing much needed services and support to homeless people across the city region.

Phil Hall, port director at the Port of Liverpool said: “As one of the largest employers and businesses in the local region, it is important that we support the communities in which we operate.

“All four selected charities provide vital services for people living in the region and as a local resident of Sefton myself, I feel especially proud that the Port of Liverpool is able to recognise the part it plays in supporting these initiatives.

“We are committed to helping these charities develop a sustainable future and we will continue to work with them – and other organisations like them – with the brilliant work they do for the region.”

Claire Ward, fundraiser at KidsKonnect, added: “We are very grateful for this fantastic contribution to our work. Operating since 1994, and run solely by volunteers, KidsKonnect provides group holidays to Wales for disadvantaged, disabled and terminally ill children so no child is excluded, and holidays are provided free of charge.

“This donation from the Peel Ports Charity Fund will give more children the opportunity to experience a holiday. Donations like this are vital in enabling us to continue to make a difference to the lives of children living in difficult circumstances.”
