Photo memories of One Magnificent City

A SPECIAL commemorative book is being produced to re-live the spectacular programme which celebrated Liverpool’s relationship with Cunard and links with the USA.

Three Queens, One Magnificent City will celebrate the seven-week One Magnificent City (OMC) programme which attracted an estimated 1.6 million people, from May to July. Around one million people gathered along the banks of the Mersey during the May bank holiday to witness maritime history as Three Cunard Queens sailed in to the city, marking the company’s 175th anniversary.

Other events forming part of OMC were:

• The stunning projection show Amazing Graces
• LightNight which saw 137 free events take place on the night of Friday 15 May in the city’s cultural venues and spaces
• The International Mersey River Festival and Music On the Waterfront concerts
• Transatlantic 175 weekend (T175) curated by Wayne Hemingway in which Liverpool created a new Guinness World Record for the most people modelling on a catwalk

Due to popular demand, Liverpool City Council has commissioned the book – Three Queens, One Magnificent City – which is set to contain more than 100 beautiful images of the events that made up the event.

And anyone who thinks they’ve got a fantastic or unique photograph is being asked to submit it for the chance for it to be included in the final publication.

In order to be considered:

• No more than five images per person can be submitted
• Each image must be at least 3MB in size
• There must be no copyright or permissions attached to use the image

No payment will be made – but the photographer will be credited in the book.

Photographic gems should be emailed to liverpooldigitaldesk@gmail.com with the subject line ‘OMC Pictures’ by midnight on Sunday 23 August 2015. The email should include the person’s full name and contact number.

Assistant Mayor, Councillor Wendy Simon, said:

“One Magnificent City included some once in a lifetime moments which people want to remember forever, which is why we are producing a permanent record.

“With an estimated 1.6 million people turning out over the seven weeks we know there will be some amazing images on cameras and mobile phones – whether it be a stunning image capturing the visit of the Three Queens or maybe a striking image of one of the Three Graces illuminated as part of Amazing Graces.

“This is a great chance for people to share their favourite photographic moments and have their handiwork published in this very special keepsake.”

Three Queens, One Magnificent City will be ready for purchase in October, and will cost £9.99.

Copies can be pre-ordered until Sunday 7 September and will cost £6.99, saving 30 per cent. To order, visit www.onemagnificentcity.co.uk and click on ‘merchandise’.

The book is being produced by Liverpool City Council in partnership with Trinity Mirror.
