City planners have approved a scheme to build 80 apartments for sale and rent in South Liverpool that will retain a set of Victorian terraced facades.

Acting for developer West Tree Estates, Liverpool architect Falconer Chester Hall (FCH) secured planning consent for the 62,000 sq ft development planned for both sides of Ducie Street in Toxteth.

It will see 41 one-bed and 39 two-bed apartments built behind elegant Victorian terraced facades. Block A comprise 45 apartments across three storeys in a refurbished building while block B will be new build, comprising 35 apartments across four storeys.

“It’s wonderful news that we’ve been able to retain the existing yellow brick facades on the north side of the street,” said project architect Robert Brym. “We’re in the heart of the Princes Avenue conservation area so the new homes will pick up on the high quality features in the immediate area.”

Croft Housing Association has been appointed to manage the rental homes. Mr Brym added: “This is a key site in the Granby Triangle and will add to the area’s rapid regeneration. The homes are for local people and will be popular given the excellent transport links and the fact that Princes Park is just around the corner.”
