A pre-pack administration deal has prevented a Wirral firm from going under, saving 375 jobs and securing ongoing supplies to the NHS.

Administrators at RSM UK identified an unnamed buyer for Bromborough-based Spark Medical and Medi 4 Ambulance Services. They provide independent ambulance services and event medical cover across the UK.

Spark directly employs 97 members of staff and numerous subcontractors and operates up to 50 medical vehicles daily.

In August 2025, Spark Medical acquired Medi 4 Ambulance Services, a provider of a broad range of patient transport and pre-hospital care solutions across the south of the UK.

This combined business has faced increased cost commitments and ongoing capital expenditure alongside a reduction in revenue, creating pressures on cash flow. This led to a creditors’ Administration application being issued on January 19, 2026.

Lee Lockwood and James Miller of RSM UK restructuring advisory acted as proposed administrators. They were able to identify a potential buyer and a successful pre-packaged sale was completed on February 6.

This deal has ensured the continuity of critical medical and ambulance services across communities, as well as securing a large number of jobs for both employees and subcontractors.

Lee Lockwood said: “The pre-pack sale of Spark Medical and Medi 4 Ambulance Services ensures the continued operations of a large NHS supplier.

“The deal carries significant implications in terms of maintaining public health services and the resilience of local health services, as well as a substantial number of jobs.

“It marks a positive outcome for the business, its employees and subcontractors and the wider community.”
