Derek Dawson of PCS: Law talks to pupils about careers in law at his former school, St Margaret’s CE Academy in Aigburth
Successful lawyer Derek Dawson has returned to his former South Liverpool school to talk to pupils about his work and career.
The solicitor works for PCS: Law, the commercial division of Paul Crowley & Co solicitors, based in Liverpool’s commercial district.
Derek returned to his former school, St Margaret’s CE Academy (SMA) in Aigburth, to deliver a talk to pupils in year 10 to 12 pupils about careers in law.
He talked about his role as head of commercial litigation at the firm as part of the school’s newly launched ‘work inspiration programme’.
It delivers weekly careers talks from selected industry professionals, giving students key information on various vocational options.
Students were keen to hear about routes into the legal profession, how long it takes to become a qualified solicitor, different specialisms within the law, as well as potential earnings.
A representatives from the University of Liverpool Law School also attended the event to answer all of pupils’ questions.
Derek said: “It was a pleasure to return to St Margaret’s to speak to pupils about my experiences in the law and answer their questions.
“The students were incredibly engaged in the discussion and helped to direct an informative and dynamic session.
“Trying to decide on a future career path is an incredibly hard process, which requires a lot of careful consideration.
Asking the right questions and seeking guidance is an essential part of this process.”
