Fast-growing Liverpool law firm MSB has announced a raft of promotions among its senior team, under the watch of managing partner Emma Carey.

Emma took up the mantle of managing partner in March 2018 and has overseen a significant recruitment and acquisitions drive at the firm to increase its expertise in key areas, including commercial property, commercial litigation and family law.

This latest move will see associate solicitor Darren Barwick become a partner, taking the total number of partners at the firm to 15. Experienced property law professional, Darren, previously worked at MSB from 2010 to 2014 and returned to the firm last year.

He has acted on all aspects of property law right across the North West and deals with site acquisition and assembly, planning agreements, unit sales and ground rent sales. He has particular expertise in secured lending and acts for a number of private bridging finance companies, as well as institutional lenders.

He also deals with general commercial property and commercial work including acting for landlords and tenants in commercial lease transactions, commercial property acquisitions and disposals, business sales and acquisitions and commercial contracts.

Darren has also worked on a number of significant residential schemes in the city, including Grosvenor’s One Park West.

Solicitors in MSB’s commercial team, Philip Coburn and Chris Hayes, will become senior associates, along with Wendy Eves from the firm’s family department.

Philip joined MSB in January 2017, followed by Chris in 2018. Both were brought in to bolster MSB’s overall commercial services offer for SMEs in the region, with Chris bringing specific experience and expertise in employment law.

Wendy Eves has been with the firm since 2016 but has more than 20 years’ experience as a family lawyer. She is a Resolution specialist and is Law Society-accredited in the areas of children and domestic violence.

Laura Harrild and Esme Poulter, solicitors in MSB’s property team, will also become associate solicitors. Laura deals with all aspects of commercial property law but has developed a strong reputation amongst bar owners and restauranteurs in the city.

Esme works in MSB’s residential property team and covers all aspects of conveyancing, but specialises in working with investors. She also has experience in various schemes including Help to Buy, Right to Buy and Housing Association Shared Ownership.

On the promotions, managing partner Emma Carey says: “All of these promotions are incredibly deserved and very much in line with my vision for MSB moving forward.

“I am committed to developing in new and niche areas of the law, and the combined experience and expertise of the individuals here will be key to us doing that.

“In my first year as managing partner I’ve been proud to see MSB achieve a great deal, both commercially and in terms of our profile, and I am excited to see what the next year will bring with so many talented and dedicated people driving our growth and development.”
