St Helens Theatre Royal’s new Autumn/Winter season is filled with the very best theatre, music, comedy and entertainment to bring to audiences over the coming months; jam packed with full scale productions from the glittering tribute acts to some of the biggest names in the world, as well as favourite local talent straight to the Theatre Royal’s stage.
The season kicks off with the music of Brit Award-winning harmonisers Blake on Friday, 11th September. Inspired by the lush trio harmonies of The Three Tenors, The Bee Gees and The Lettermen, the boys will perform exclusive songs from their latest CD In Harmony along with hits from their four other award winning pop/classical albums.
Next up things are about to get hot as the boys from Forbidden Nights show off their talents. Forbidden are skilled and professionally trained performers, hand-picked from around the UK with charisma, undeniable talent, sparkling personality and honed physiques in equal measure. Naughty – but not so naughty that you couldn’t bring your Nan.
Up next is the outrageous and side splitting Olivier Award-winning musical Acorn Antiques from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th September. Based on the hit soap opera parody, follow Miss Babs and Miss Berta’s struggle to keep their antiques business afloat as they are threatened into being taken over by yet another faceless high street coffee shop – The Guilty Bean!
Keeping the laughter going, the next act to follow is the side splitting Tommy Cooper Show on Sunday, 27th September. West End and Blood Brothers star Daniel Taylor stars as Tommy Cooper in the knockout performance of the year. Even with the blessing of the great man’s daughter, stepping into his shoes might seem like an impossible task but just ask the audiences who have seen him if he lives up to the part – when they stop howling with laughter that is.
Bringing September to a close is the inexplicable and unmissable Psychic Sally On The Road 2015. World-renowned psychic and star of TV’s Psychic Sally On the Road, Sally Morgan returns with her sensational live show. An ordinary woman with an extraordinary gift, she believes she can communicate with people beyond the grave. Now in her seventh year on tour, Sally continues to wow audiences across the country, delivering messages with incredible accuracy and validating the presence of spirit.
October is off to an action packed start with American Wrestling pining the audiences down in their seats. Come along on Saturday, 3rd October for a night of electric thrills, athletic feats and non-stop action. Cheer the goodies, boo the baddies and take advantage of the free meet and greet.
From Tuesday 6th to Saturday 10th October, St Helens is getting a new local as The Ale House opens its doors. Brought to you by Regal Entertainment Ltd and featuring an all star cast, this hilarious rowdy comedy from the writers of Night Collar promises all kinds of drunken and disorderly mayhem before the barrels are empty. Every local has its regulars and those who prop up the bar, The Ale House will having audiences laughing in the aisle. Featuring a stella cast including Jake Abrahams from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, George Wilson of Brookside fame, Hitchhikers Guide to Fazakerly’s Lindzi Germain and directed by Theatre Royal favourite Sylvie Gatrill, there will be raucous laughs from the first pint pulled.
Up next in October are two classics, Sing-A-Long-A-Grease and Ken Dodd’s Happiness Show. Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a T-bird or a Pink Lady but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off? Well, now is your chance to don those pink jackets, grease up those quiffs and let your inhibitions go for an evening where you are the stars and remember GREASE is the word. Legendary multi award-winning comedian Ken Dodd invites you to his Happiness Show, you’ll be absolutely discumknockerated (that’s Knotty Ash for ‘over the moon’) by a truly tattifelarius (fun-filled) evening of laughter and songs.
Also in October Vienna Festival Ballet comes to delight and entertain audiences with their adaptation of the classic story, Coppelia. Follow the adventures of old Dr Coppelius and his prized doll along with lovers Swanhilda and Franz on an enchanting evening of mischief, frivolity and a lovers‘ tiff.
October finishes with an equally magical tale, the timeless classic The Wizard of Oz, running from Saturday 24th October to Sunday 1st November. Travel over the rainbow and reunite with Dorothy and all of her friends as they travel through the magical Land of Oz on a quest to find the Wizard and help Dorothy return to Kansas.
Next up is something for the adults, star of 8 Out of 10 Cats, Jimmy Carr brings his own close to the bone brand of comedy to the stage and for him nothing is out of bounds. Or if you prefer a more family friendly comedian, Milton Jones brings his own brand of light hearted absurdist stand up to the stage on Wednesday, 11th November.
This November, legendary international recording artists Foster & Allen bring their 40th anniversary tour to the UK and will be playing a string of their greatest hits along with some of their newer ones. To follow is tribute act We Three Kings of Rock N Roll. Three amazing tribute acts pay tribute to three of the all time greats of rock and roll – you’ll have a hard time believing that you’re not seeing Billy Fury, Buddy Holly and Elvis returned from the dead.
Enjoy the festive season with St Helens Theatre Royal this Christmas, treat the whole family to the biggest panto in town as Regal Entertainments present Cinderella from Friday, 4th Dec all the way through to the new year Sunday 10th Jan 2016. Featuring an all-star cast including Benidorm star and Theatre Royal favourite Crissy Rock and Coronation Street’s Marc Baylis. Also in December, the funky, folk show full of fun and laughter, The Houghton Weavers will be gracing St Helens Theatre Royal stage, guaranteeing a wonderful evening of song and humour.
However that’s not all, after the new year the Theatre Royal will return with a whole raft of brilliant and entertaining new shows, A Vision of Elvis, That’ll Be the Day, The Bradshaws – Goosed and The The Illegal Eagles to name but a few.
Finally the Theatre Royal is very excited to announce the arrival in February of Bill Kenwright Ltd’s spell binding production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber’s dazzling family musical, which continues it’s record breaking tour, having sold an estimated 15 million tickets to date. Starring X Factor winner Joe McElderry, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat retells the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colours, this magical musical is full of unforgettable songs including Those Canaan Days, Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door To Me.
