A stairlifts installation and servicing venture is expanding for the fifth time since it was founded in 2008 as it looks to meet rising demand.

Halton Stairlifts was launched out of a garage by husband and wife duo Neil, 43, and Kate Mckenzie, 38, and their friend and business partner Jon Williams, 41. Neil and Jon are stairlift technicians while Kate is an experienced HR executive.

In the 17 years since the firm has helped thousands of people stay in their homes with the help of their stairlifts. The business moved out of the garage into a 1,000 sq ft unit in an industrial estate in Widnes. It later took a 2,000 sq ft unit next door.

In 2017, the team moved into a new 8,000 sqft warehouse facility in Speke in south Liverpool and have continued to operate from there, servicing even more people needing help with their independence at home.

Now Halton Stairlifts is returning to its Cheshire roots by relocating the business into a 17,000 sq ft facility in Halton.

Neil Mckenzie said: “What started as a small business idea has turned into a powerhouse of helping people across the UK stay independent in their homes and we couldn’t be more proud of Halton Stairlifts’ growth over the past 16 years.

“We can’t quite believe how far we’ve come and it’s a credit to our team and the high-quality service and product that we’ve committed to delivering consistently since 2008.

In the early days Halton Stairlifts sourced reliable unwanted stairlift models and built relationships with suppliers. It grew rapidly and the simple weekend or out of hours jobs turned into a seven day a week operation.

Today, the firm is renowned as one of the best independent stairlift companies in the UK. It has used Google, social media, physical advertising and word-of-mouth recommendations to support their customers, mostly pensioners and veterans.

“Customer care is at the very centre of Halton Stairlifts and supporting thousands of people with their independence is what we’ve always dreamed of,” added Neil.

“In 2025, we expect to help more than 6,000 people remain independent in their homes and the expansion of our new showroom will allow us to facilitate this growth.”
