Still time left to practise your chuckle muscles

Liverpool Comedy Festival has taken over Britain’s funniest city, with acts at venues across the city region, and runs until Sunday 4th October – which means there is still time to catch some top comedy acts.

This year’s festival has already seen some of the biggest names on the comedy circuit visit the city, including Chatty Man himself Alan Carr who performed at the world famous Liverpool Philharmonic. However, the Phil has more to offer in terms of big names with Phoenix Nights and That Peter Kay Thing star Dave Spikey stopping by on Friday 2nd October with his new tour Punchlines.

The stars continue to come out as the Epstein Theatre welcomes Only Fools and Horses’ Boycie, one of the nation’s greatest comedy actors, John Challis, who will reveal secrets from the set with stories and anecdotes from his dazzling career in Only Fools and Boycie on Wednesday 30th September.

Yearlong comedy clubs Laughterhouse Comedy, Hot Water Comedy Club, Comedy Central and Liverpool Comedy Cellar have saved some of the best for last, including Dan Nightingale with his show Dan Nightingale’s Small World Tours on Wednesday 30th September. Also still to come is presenter of Channel 4’s The Word, Terry Christian with his one man show Naked Confessions of a Recovering Catholic. Part stand up, part Q & A, this hilarious shows takes a takes a snapshot of life, overlooked by an all-seeing (and often unforgiving) God on Sunday 4th October.

Some of the most exciting acts yet to grace the stage will be performing at 81 Renshaw Street; Merseyside funny man John Wilson follows up last year’s Comedy Festival success with his new laugh out loud, one man show Love that Gag. John is joined by a host of other talented acts such as Raymond Mearns, one of the best stand ups to come out of Scotland in the last ten years and a beloved regular on the UK and international comedy circuits. Also appearing at Renshaw Street is Harriet Dyer of BBC Radio 4 Extra fame with her brand show Nonsense that has received rave reviews everywhere it has been performed.

Running throughout the festival, John Godber’s classic and hilarious show Bouncers is at The Royal Court until Saturday 3rd October. It’s 1985 and Ralph, Les, Judd and Lucky Eric are on the doors of The Grafton. They’re not doormen or security operatives – they’re bouncers and they’ve seen it all. Lads full of lager, girls full of giggles and clubs full of crazy stories feature in this brilliantly funny show.

Festival director Sam Avery from The Comedy Trust said:

“This year is our biggest and most successful and diverse festival to date: more shows than ever before and a strong emphasis on the hugely exciting local scene alongside the household names and international acts.”

The festival has already proven to be a smash hit and has much, much more to offer, so don’t miss out on your chance to be a part of one of Liverpool’s favourite and longest-standing festivals, the Liverpool Comedy Festival running until Sunday 4 October.
