Telecoms firm creates more than 200 jobs

A Liverpool city region telecoms firm has seen its headcount grow from less 10 people to more than 200 just a year after its launch. Tony McDonough reports

A Liverpool city region telecoms and broadband installation firm has created more than 200 jobs just a year after it started trading.

Shawton Telecoms & Utilities was launched with just three members of staff at its headquarters in Newton-le-Willows in August 2021. Now more than 80 people are employed at its office with 135 engineers in the field.

Working alongside partners Digital Infrastructure, City Fibre and Be Fibre, the Tier 1 contractor is on track to deliver services to more than 1m homes over the next five years. It has seen revenue grow tenfold since the start of 2022.

Founder Jamie Shaw said Shawton is providing services to homes, schools and businesses. He added: “The business is rapidly growing from strength to strength and we’re proud to have attracted a number of notable blue-chip clients.

“Within our core management team we have 135 years of combined expertise. This covers telecoms, utilities, construction and civils. They are unrivaled when it comes to providing full-fibre networking.”

Shawton offers a number of services ranging from route surveying, planning and design, permitting and noticing. It is also playing its part in the Government’s plans to roll out full-fibre broadband throughout the country by 2025.”

Delivery director Gavin Collier added: “People are at the forefront of everything we do here at Shawton. That’s why we’re dedicating our time and experience to creating a new talent pool through our training and education partners across the North West.

“We’re giving people the opportunity to open a new chapter by gaining industry-recognised skills, valuable insight and all  of the accreditations that they need for a successful career.”
