The Brink is set to offer its visitors a breath of fresh air with the introduction of its new allotment and garden.
Located on Parr Street, the revolutionary social initiative has become the first in the city to have been selected by Bluegreen Liverpool, which is a Big Lottery funded project that aims to encourage and maximise the use of green-space.
In a bid to provide a unique arm to the recovery process, the venue’s courtyard has undergone a makeover to see its walls adorned with fruit trees and flower beds, alongside freshly growing vegetables, herbs and edible plants.
General Manager of The Brink Carl Bell said:
“It’s fantastic to be in a position to promote Bluegreen’s innovative scheme to bring more green-space to the city centre. Our new vibrant outside area is perfect for those seeking sanctuary within the bustling city centre. Likewise, it will offer a unique place for volunteers in the recovery community to tend and maintain, whilst connecting with Mother Nature in peaceful surroundings.
“As we are Action on Addiction’s flagship social enterprise, our new allotment and garden comes as part of our mission to provide a safe, stigma-free and supportive environment for all those who come through our doors. Here at The Brink, our main objective is to provide a recovery and well-being focus through a variety of forward-thinking initiatives, so we’re sure that the allotment will delight and inspire our visitors.”
As the UK’s first and Liverpool’s only dry-bar, The Brink is a refuge of advice, community and friendship for people at every stage of recovery, whether just starting out or after many years of abstinence. In addition to offering discreet help for people suffering from alcohol and drug addictions, the award-winning venue also promotes wellbeing with its range of nourishing food and healthy drinks, whereby profits are fed directly back to the community.
Carl added:
“Aside from our permanent fixtures, we also offer a number of social activities and events that are open to both members of the recovery community and the general public alike, which aim to offer an experience to promote social inclusion and wellbeing such as art and meditation, motivation coaching circles and even football training, along with one-to-one counselling and group-support.
“Having recently reverted back to our core focus surrounding recovery and wellbeing, the team and I are eager to further our reach in providing support and guidance to enable positive life transformations for those battling an addiction.”
