This year, St Helens Theatre Royal is pleased to be hosting an array of extremely talented tribute acts from the legendary Billy Fury to Starman, celebrating the late David Bowie’s musical career.
Whether you want to dance in the aisles to Queen’s killer hits, sing along to Dolly Parton or jive out to Johnny Cash, the Theatre Royal has something to suit all tastes.
The fun starts tonight (Friday, 11th March) with The Billy Fury Show. Michael King returns in a brand new show Billy Fury – The Birthday Concert tour. This exciting, two-hour show is packed with all Billy Fury’s hits, featuring stunning new video and audio effects and will have you dancing in the aisles and reliving arguably one of the most exciting times in modern popular music.
The first and still the best tribute to Queen comes to St Helens on Friday, 18th March. Magic – A Kind of Queen 2016 will perform all of Queen’s greatest. With five vocals to back up the powerful lead vocal of the dynamic Roger Brown, Magic recreates all the complex harmonies that are Queen’s trademark. Magic creates all the excitement of a Queen live show and is not to be missed.
The world’s foremost tribute to The Electric Light Orchestra, The ELO Experience comes to St Helens on Friday, 22ndApril as part of its 10th Anniversary Tour. With a sensational string section, a stunning light show and large screen projection, this sensational tribute will play all the favourites, from Evil Woman and Living Thing to Mr Blue Sky.
Following huge demand after their performance at St Helens last year, Let’s Hang On returns to take you on a musical journey through the history of one of the most successful bands of all time – Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons – on Friday, 6th May. With all the hit songs including Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, December 1963 (Oh What A Night!), Walk Like A Man, Sherry, Working My Way Back To You and Big Girls Don’t Cry, prepare for an electric atmosphere, and don’t be surprised to find yourself up on your feet and dancing!
Dolly fans will be delighted to hear that Andrea Pattison brings The Dolly Parton Story to St Helens on Saturday, 7thMay. A professional singer for many years, Andrea mainly performed at weddings and functions when many people commented on her similarity in sound and style to Dolly Parton. A lifelong fan of Dolly’s, Andrea has performed as Dolly all over the UK, recent highlights including sell out shows at Glasgow Pavilion and The Edinburgh Fringe.
The legendary Chicago Blues Brothers are back on their brand new Jailbreak Tour which stops at St Helens on Saturday, 21st May. Celebrating over 30 years of the Blues Brothers, this non-stop revue is packed with over two hours of the very best Blues, Motown and Soul music from both of The Blues Brothers movies, including Everybody Needs Somebody, Soul Man, Respect and Shake a Tail Feather – plus plenty of laughs too! Don’t forget your pork pie hats and sunglasses!
The only show to be endorsed by the Cash family, The Johnny Cash Road Show takes place on Sunday, 5th June and is not to be missed by die-hard fans and causal listeners alike. The UK’s No1 celebration of Johnny Cash, fronted by award winning singer/songwriter Clive John, re-creates with astounding accuracy and truly captures the essence of what it was like to be at a real Cash show, taking the audience from the 1950s right up to 2002, featuring all of the classic songs.
A brand new show for 2016, The Simon & Garfunkel Story comes direct from its success in London’s West End, a sold out UK tour and standing ovations at every performance, to St Helens on Thursday, 16th June. Using huge projection photos and original film footage, this 50th Anniversary Celebration features a full live band performing all the hits including Mrs Robinson, Cecilia, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Homeward Bound and many more.
Starman David Bowie, a musical celebration, will be staged on Saturday, 17th September. This highly charged show features the finest musicians and singers who take the audience on a Fantastic Voyage of Bowie hits. Include big screen audio visual footage plus various costume changes and you have an awesome show. Starman is not only the ultimate tribute to a legend, but a highly entertaining, emotional and thought provoking musical celebration.
Don’t miss the biggest 70s party ever on Thursday, 6th October! Dancing Queen ‘The Concert’ is an action packed party show featuring over two hours of the greatest hits from Abba, Grease and the 70’s. This is the ultimate nostalgia night that guarantees to get you dancing in the aisles! Relive the nights when Abba ruled the danced floor and experience the classic 70s era in all its glory. With full costumes and plenty of glitz, this is the golden age in pop revived!
Some Guys Have All The Luck is a brand new show celebrating the career of one of rock’s greatest icons, Rod Stewart. Taking place on Saturday, 8th October, Paul Metcalfe delivers an authentic and charismatic performance assuming the persona of this legendary singer-songwriter and performer right down to the last detail – from the distinctive vocals to the swaggering showmanship and sheer fun that have made Rod Stewart one of the most loved performers of all time.
You can’t see the Bee Gees anymore, but you can see Nights on Broadway on Friday, 4th November and still experience a concert of the incredible music written by the brothers Gibb. Nights On Broadway presents a tribute to the Bee Gees through their catalogue of hits over four decades from the 60s to the 90s. The full live band, known also as ‘The Irish Bee Gees’, blend the classic hits, acoustic medleys and dance floor fillers which define the show.
