Housing association Torus has submitted plans to build 63 affordable homes in St Helens.
Liverpool-based Torus is teaming up with builder Seddon Construction on the scheme located on a 4.5-acre site off Evelyn Avenue. It will comprise eight apartments and 55 houses, including two bungalows.
All the homes, being built on the former Parr High School site, will be between one and four bedrooms and will be for social rent which is typically around 50% of private rents for the area.
“In plans submitted to St Helens Councils, Torus said: “The scheme is a response to an identified need for affordable housing in the area and has been developed in consultation with St Helens with the focus of providing quality and accessible homes.
“The mix of property sizes and types are designed to ensure sustainability and help meet demand and required accommodation in the area while ensuring they also meet nationally described space standards.”
In January LBN reported Torus was pushing forward with plans to build 212 affordable homes at a giant development site, also in St Helens.

In 2024 Torus acquired part of the Cowley Hill site from developer BXB (Cowley Hill), a joint venture between BXB Land Solutions and Promenade Estates. The entire site is earmarked for up to 1,100 new homes in a £200m scheme.
For its part of the scheme on the former glassworks, Torus has teamed up with its development partner Keepmoat. They aim to build 112 social rent homes, 62 under shared ownership and 38 right-to-buy.
