The ever-popular Waterloo Beer Festival returns over the May Day bank holiday weekend with a pledge to give visitors some respite from general election campaigning.
Festival organiser Liverpool Organic Brewery revisits its spiritual home at Old Christ Church from Thursday April 30 to Sunday May 3, less than a week before the nation goes to the polls.
Sunday’s session lasts for seven hours – almost twice the length of every other session – and is expected to approach a sell-out as guests bid to escape party politics in favour of a festival atmosphere ahead of bank holiday Monday.
The festival will showcase more than 200 real ales and ciders from microbreweries across the UK, as well as various continental lagers and beers, Liverpool Gin, local handmade food and live entertainment at all six sessions.

“The final weekend before the general election is guaranteed to be a feast of political interruptions, from rosette-bearing campaigners on every doorstep to incessant media coverage of the latest pre-election sweeteners.

“After all, fewer things in life are finer than a sunny spring bank holiday spent in the company of those you love and cherish most. Some of our guests will also bring family and friends with them.
“It’s well known that we receive too few public holidays in this country so, until this becomes a coalition policy deal-breaker, it’s important we squeeze out every drop of enjoyment we can.”
