A specialist Wirral manufacturer that makes critical components for the semiconductor, aerospace and energy sectors is investing £900,000 in a new 10,000 sq ft factory. Tony McDonough reports
Wirral manufacturer ASG AMF Engineering is investing £900,000 to build a new production facility at its Bromborough headquarters.
ASG AMF Engineering already operates a 16,000 sq ft production plant at the site in Bromborough. Now the company is to build another 10,000 sq ft plant adding a number of extra people to its existing 55-strong workforce.
Formerly AMF Precision engineering, the firm was founded more than 35 years ago and produces critical components for the semiconductor, aerospace and energy sectors and for research facilities across Europe.
In July 2020 it was acquired, for an undisclosed sum, by Stockport-based ASG Group. This is a collection of eight aerospace suppliers across the UK, Germany and India.
Employing more than 340 people, the £45m-turnover ASG Group specialises in the design, development, and production of aircraft parts, components, and systems.
In the same year the group also acquired a Liverpool engineering business, King & Fowler, which dates back to 1887. In September it announced a £1.35m investment in a new production line to service one of its biggest clients Airbus.
This new investment by AMF in Wirral will mean it can now also create additional space in its current factory. It will increase the size of its clean assembly facility, chemical cleaning and welding processes.
Managing director Simon Kirkham said the investment will allow the firm to significantly improve the company’s capabilities and increase production capacity.
“This expansion marks a significant milestone for our company,” he added. “We are excited to continue providing high-quality solutions to our valued customers while creating new opportunities for growth and innovation.

“With our new facility, we are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of the sectors we are currently working in and also pursue opportunities in other sectors to further grow the business.”
ASG AMF Engineering’s new thermal spray and cleaning facility will lead to increased efficiency and productivity.
By automating these processes, the company has freed up skilled labour, ensuring a smoother workflow and maintaining the highest quality standards in the industry.
