Baby hospice Zoe’s Place appoints contractor to start work on £6.1m new home in Liverpool following a successful £7.4m fundraising campaign. Tony McDonough reports
Construction firm Krol Corlett has secured the contract to build the new home of baby hospice Zoe’s Place.
It has been appointed principal contractor for what will be called the Little Lights Hospice located at Hayman’s Green in West Derby. Work on the £6.1m project will get under way this month.
In October 2024 it was revealed the future of the Zoe’s Place was in doubt and needed to raise £5m in 30 days to secure its future. In the end more than 60,000 organisations and individuals raised around £7.4m.
Biggest single donation came from the owners of Liverpool-based value retailer Home Bargains with a pledge of £2.5m.
This new facility will provide specialist care and support to babies and young children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, as well as vital support for their families.
With its head office based in Liverpool, Krol Corlett offers extensive experience in delivering high-quality healthcare and community facilities.
Managing director Daniel Tebay said: “This is a project that means so much to the city and to the families who rely on the vital care and support the hospice provides.
“With our head office based in Liverpool, it’s especially important to us that we play our part in creating a facility that will serve the community for generations to come.
“Beyond the construction itself, our commitment to Liverpool Zoe’s Place goes further. The Krol Corlett team has been actively supporting the charity through fundraising initiatives, including many of us taking on next month’s Liverpool Half Marathon.”

Barry Kushner, project manager at Zoe’s Place, added: “It was incredibly important to us that we partnered with a local company that truly understands our city and the community we serve.
“From the outset, their commitment to the project and genuine enthusiasm have been clear, and that passion is matched by their expertise and track record in delivering high-quality healthcare facilities.”
