£200m maintenance deal for Liverpool firm HMS

Housing group, Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH), has awarded a £200m repairs, maintenance and investment contract to Liverpool firm HMS.

The company, based in Stonebridge Park will be carrying out work on LMH’s 15,000 homes for the next four years.

The contract also includes investment projects that will involve HMS providing environmental works and refurbishment to empty homes.

Paul Worthington, HMS managing director, said:

“Winning a contract of this magnitude reflects the position and capacity of the company.

“A four year contract gives us the opportunity to plan and deliver co-ordinated services.

“We have a strong foundation having provided a consistently high standard of maintenance for LMH over the past year and now we can focus on streamlining our services to meet the demands of tenants even better.”

LMS chief executive Steve Coffey said:

“It means work can be carried out quicker, we can build a closer relationship with one predominant contractor, and tenants will become accustomed to knowing what HMS is, does and stands for.

“We are delighted this work was won by HMS, it will also allow us to reinvest the profits it makes into our social dividend which is a fund that supports initiatives that address deprivation, promotes inclusion and supports communities.

“This profit – £3.4m in 2013/14 – would otherwise be lost to tenants if we chose an independent contractor.”

The contract does also allow for other organisations to use HMS over the next four years on the same pre-tendered rates.

On May 27, HMS will hold a supplier day at Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza Hotel to recruit local trade and technical staff.

Mr Worthington said:

“We are committed to supporting and developing employment and businesses in the areas where we work.

“We recognise that people are at the heart of the services and projects that we deliver and finding staff with the right values and attitude is very important to us.”
