A Liverpool housing provider is planning to build 92 affordable new homes on an empty site that includes a former Baptist church. Tony McDonough reports

South Liverpool Homes has submitted a planning application to build 92 new affordable homes.

Located on mostly empty land along South Parade and Conleach Road in Speke, the homes would be a mix of houses, apartments and bungalows. The site also includes the former Speke Baptist Church which would be demolished.

Designed by architects at Halsall Lloyd Partnership, the project would comprise 57 houses and 35 apartments across two buildings. It includes 29 two-bed, 20 three-bed and two four-bedroom houses.

There will also be 19 one-bed and 16 two-bedroom apartments as well as six two-bedroom bungalows.

Each of the bungalows and apartments would be available for affordable rent, while the houses would be offered as either affordable rent, rent to buy, or shared ownership units. Homes England will provide grant funding.

An affordable home is one with a rent or sale value that is no more than 80% of local market rents or prices.

Project team on the scheme includes Shape Consulting Engineers, Redmore Environmental, Urban Green, Mode Transport Planning, and Mulberry TMC.

This application come just a month after work started on a £14m development for 74 new homes on the site of the former Garston public baths.

Private developer Legacie is delivering this scheme on behalf of South Liverpool Homes. It will comprise 27 homes for social rent, 12 homes for affordable rent for people over 55 and 35 rent-to-buy properties.
