Accountancy firm MHA more than trebles its Liverpool office space amid a rise in headcount and forecasts full-year revenues of around £200m. Tony McDonough reports

Accountancy firm MHA has taken an extra 3,000 sq ft of office space in Liverpool city centre.

This takes its total space at Exchange Station in Tithebarn Street to 4,200 sq ft. This office houses the firm’s 43 staff including four partners and one director.

Until April this year the office was part of the North West accountancy firm Moore and Smalley. In its final year before merging with national operator MHA, LBN reported that Moore and Smalley had seen revenues rise by 12% to £30.4m.

Pre-tax profits rose from £8.7m last year to £9.25m. These profits have been distributed among its 30 partners with the highest paid partner receiving £671,000.

Now the operation is part of the much larger MHA which has 22 offices across the UK and Ireland, including five in the North West. MHA is, in turn, a member firm of Baker Tilly International.

MHA announced revenue growth of 32% in its half year financial update. The firm’s headcount has grown to more than 1,900 across the UK, including 147 partners, and in September it welcomed a record 214 new trainees.

Revenue across the firm has doubled over the last four years from £90m in 2020 to an expected full year revenue of £200m for the 2024/25 financial year.

Headcount in Liverpool has also seen growth. Recent senior appointments in the city have included tax partner Michael Spencer and transaction services director Rowan Porter.

“We’ve been recruiting at all levels from trainees to partners and this fresh investment in our Liverpool office underpins our plans for developing our people and supporting our clients, both now and in the future.”

As part of the expansion in Liverpool, the office has received a major refurbishment by fit-out specialist Claremont. This has been undertaken in line with MHA’s approach to staff wellbeing, carbon reduction and minimising waste.
