Bold Street coffee continues expansion drive
Liverpool coffee shop brand Bold Street Coffee continues its expansion drive with the opening of its eighth outlet, located at a specialist climbing facility in south Liverpool. Tony McDonough reports

Bold Street Coffee has opened its second new outlet in 2026 taking its total up to eight.
In December 2025, LBN revealed the brand, owned by Matt Farrell and John Ennis through their GSG Hospitality venture, was to embark on a new expansion drive in 2026 with another four outlets.
True to its word the business is already on its second new outlet of the year with a Bold Street Coffee now trading at The Climbing Hangar at the Matchworks in Garston in south Liverpool. This is a well-established facility for climbing enthusiasts.
This latest opening follows a new outlet at Duke Street Market in Liverpool. Other locations in the pipeline for this year include a Bold Street Coffee roastery and bakery in Wavertree and a possible Chester site.
Bold Street Coffee first opened in Bold Street in Liverpool city centre in 2010. In 2025 it opened its sixth venue in Glossop Market Hall in Derbyshire.
Matt Farrell said: “Opening Bold Street Coffee South Liverpool at The Climbing Hangar is a really exciting step for us. It’s a unique, family-friendly space with a strong sense of community, which aligns perfectly with what Bold Street Coffee is about.
“This opening also reflects an important period of growth for the brand, and we’re looking forward to building on that momentum throughout 2026 and beyond.”
Bold Street Coffee South Liverpool will be open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Members of the public are also welcome as well as customers of The Climbing Hangar. It has created four full-time and one part-time job.

Ged MacDomhnaill, founder and chief executive of The Climbing Hangar, added: “We are so pleased to be partnering with Bold Street Coffee, as our histories are deeply interwoven.
“Both businesses were born and raised in Liverpool in 2010. My journey into coffee started when Bold Street Coffee opened my tastebuds to what coffee could be and the bliss of letting time wash over you in their incredible space.

“In Bold Street Coffee we created the Women’s Climbing Symposium, interviewed people, celebrated, recovered from celebrating, and had one legendary Christmas party there too when they did a critical crowdfund. I even bought my first ever artwork from their local artist rotation.
“I get a deep sense of pride of repaying the deep debt of gratitude I feel to Liverpool, my adopted home, for its people and their attitude and how that nurtured me and The Climbing Hangar.”
