Just seven days after announcing new winter routes from Liverpool to Reykjavik and Kittilä, easyJet now reveals another route from Liverpool to a European capital city. Tony McDonough reports

Low-cost airline easyJet has announced a new winter route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) to a European capital city.
Starting on November 19, easyJet will offer return flights to Budapest in Hungary every Thursday and Sunday. This comes just seven day after the carrier announced new winter routes from LJLA to Reykjavik in Iceland and Kittilä in Lapland.
This service to Budapest is one of 13 new winter routes from UK airports being announced today.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be announcing a further 13 new routes this winter, bringing the number of new routes on sale over the past two weeks to a total of 26.
“A real statement of our commitment to giving customers across the UK more choice from their local airport.

“From winter sun escapes to magical Christmas market breaks, there’s never been a better time to book a flight or package holiday with easyJet. We look forward to welcoming even more customers on board for their winter holidays.”
There are already more than 40 routes operated by easyJet from LJLA and the carrier, which is currently the subject of takeover speculation, has added a ninth aircraft to its base here.
Budapest straddles the River Danube. It is celebrated for its grand 19th-century architecture, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and world-famous thermal baths. Divided into the hilly Buda and the lively Pest districts, it offers an affordable mix of rich history and a thriving ruin bar scene.
Paul Winfield, aviation director at LJLA, added: “We are pleased that easyJet is expanding choice for our passengers with the addition of Budapest, responding to strong demand for additional frequency to this popular destination.
“The new service enhances Liverpool’s connectivity for passengers across the North West and North Wales, while further strengthening our offering to key city break markets.”
