North West law firm Brabners has secured a place on the Scottish Professional Football League’s (SPFL) new panel of external legal advisers.

The SPFL was founded in 2013 following a merger between the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League. It comprises the top four levels of the league system and two cup competitions – the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Challenge Cup.

The panel was created following the end of a long-term relationship between SPFL and Scotland-based Harper Mcleod.

With major bases in Liverpool and Manchester, Brabners has been a leading adviser to the sports sector for more than 30 years. It has worked with some of the UK’s best-known sporting organisations during a period of historic legal developments.

Brabners currently advises a range of sports governing bodies including British Swimming, the England and Wales Cricket Board, Basketball England and British Judo.  The firm also represents a number of English Premier League, EFL Championship and lower division football clubs.

Brabners is joined on the SPFL legal panel by Fladgate, gunnercooke and Glasgow-based Shepherd & Wedderburn and will work alongside newly appointed in-house counsel Rod Mckenzie.
