Hotel Indigo racing ahead with new bike scheme for guests
Guests – and employees – at one of Liverpool’s finest four-star hotels, Hotel Indigo, can now see the city from the saddle, following the launch of the hotel’s very own bike hire scheme. It comes following the city-wide, council-funded CityBike hire scheme, which peddled into action earlier this year.
The hotel, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, has invested in six bikes, all carrying the Indigo branding, which are free for guests and staff to use to explore the city in a convenient and environmentally-friendly way.
Stephanie Cannell-Corcoran, general manager, said:
“When we heard about the CityBike scheme being launched by the council we thought it was a great opportunity to get in the saddle ourselves and create a similar offering specifically for our guests which would enhance their stay with us. It is already proving to be a huge success with many taking full advantage of the scheme during their time at the hotel. We even had Dolly Parton’s entourage take the bikes out for a ride during their recent stay with us when the legendary singer was performing in the city!
“We all know the personal health benefits that come with cycling, but just from chatting to those who’ve already taken up the offer, the best thing about the scheme is being able to explore the city at their own pace in the fresh air and discovering places that might have gone under the radar had they taken one of the bus tours. It really is the best way to see Liverpool.
“The scheme is also an example of our conscious effort in reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint. The Indigo team are encouraged to use the bikes and so far they have embraced the offer which is amazing, with many using the bikes to travel to and from work.”
The city council’s CityBike scheme was launched in May by Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman, and consists of 100 bikes that are available to the public for hire.
