Liverpool City Council planners have approved the multi-million pound 31-storey residential development on Liverpool’s waterfront. Tony McDonough reports

A long-delayed high-rise residential development on Liverpool’s waterfront is finally set to go ahead after council planners gave the green light.

Peel L&P and Your Housing Group (YHG) will now press ahead with the 31-storey Patagonia Place at Princes Dock in Liverpool Waters. The multi-million pound development will comprise 278 apartments.

It replaces the original scheme for the plot, the £48m Hive City Docks tower, which would also have risen to 31 stories. Work started on Hive City Docks in 2018 but came to a halt a short time later.

Patagonia Place will sit between the existing City Lofts development, which has been up for more than a decade, and the the £21m 16-storey Plaza 1821, which this year welcomed its first tenants.

On the other side of Plaza 1821 is the soon to be completed 34-storey, £80m skyscraper, the Lexington. Patagonia Place has been designed by Faulkner Chester Hall, with Arup providing planning consultation and Vermont in line to build the project.
