Mobile afternoon tea company Room Forty has been declared Afternoon Tea Company of the Year at the Manchester & Northwest England Prestige Awards 2021/22.

It is the latest in a string of awards for Warrington-based Room Forty, which also runs a bakery school. It was founded by Jen Perry in 2016 as a mobile afternoon tea parlour setting up in customers’ homes or venues, dressing the room in 1930s style.

It serves traditional, homemade afternoon teas to guests on fine vintage china. It established its baking school that same year delivering classes across the region and has taught more than 600 people to bake bread, cakes and biscuits.

Jen Perry makes and bakes everything for her afternoon tea herself from her five-star rated kitchen in Woolston, Warrington. The coveted award is the sixth award won by the business.

The Manchester & North West Prestige Awards cover the entire North West region and are judged following a five-month period of scrutiny by a team of judges. The awards are sponsored by CorporateLiveWire.

“Winning this award came as a complete surprise and I am absolutely thrilled. It is humbling to receive such recognition,” said Jen. “COVID made it a difficult couple of years for us all.

“I was unable to provide my full table service and so adapted to delivering boxed afternoon teas. As ever, the support of my lovely customers was amazing. I’m thankfully back to offering full waiting on service although keeping on delivering boxed teas once a month. I am so lucky to have created a little business doing what I love.”
