Accountancy firm MHA hires new tax parter

Accountancy firm MHA Moore and Smalley has appointed an experienced tax advisor at its Liverpool office

Tax specialist Michael Spencer has joined the Liverpool office of accountancy firm MHA Moore and Smalley as a partner.

Michael joins the practice from Grant Thornton where he worked for nine years. In his new role he will focus on business restructuring, exit readiness, succession planning and wealth protection.

He also offers expertise in international business structures and will work alongside tax partner Tony Reddin and senior tax manager Michael Court in the firm’s Liverpool-based team.

Michael said: “My approach is all about spending time with clients to understand their business priorities and family wealth objectives, and then providing them with pragmatic and commercial tax advice that helps them to achieve their goals.”

Originally from Peterborough, Michael has lived in Liverpool since 2011. As well as being a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and former chairman of the Institute’s Merseyside branch he is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Andrew Matthews, partner in MHA Moore and Smalley’s Liverpool office, added: “Michael is a hugely experienced tax advisor and will provide invaluable support to the entrepreneurial leaders and businesses that we advise.”

His appointment takes MHA Moore and Smalley’s tax team in the North West region to 55 members, which includes eight partners and seven directors. Michael now brings the total number of partners at the firm to 30.
