Knowsley sports nutrition venture Applied Nutrition has started work on a new 84,000 sq ft global distribution centre and company headquarters in the borough.

Upon completion, the development will increase the company’s total operational footprint to over 204,000 sq ft across its Liverpool city region-based facilities.

Applied Nutrition produces a range of pre-work out supplements, protein powders, vitamins, protein waters and other wellness and fitness products.

Founded in 2014 by Kirkby-born Tom Ryder, in late October 2024 the firm entered the London Stock Exchange in a £350m flotation. In November 2025 it revealed it had broken through the £100m revenue barrier for the first time.

This new site represents a significant investment in the company’s long-term operational infrastructure. Designed to support accelerating demand across both UK and international markets, the facility will act as Applied Nutrition’s central global distribution hub while housing its new headquarters.

It will materially enhance warehousing capacity, fulfilment speed and operational efficiency, ensuring the business is positioned to scale alongside expanding retail partnerships and global e-commerce growth.

Tom Ryder said: “We’re incredibly excited to be embarking on this next chapter for Applied Nutrition.

“Securing planning permission, and now commencing construction, allows us to invest ahead of demand, strengthen our operational capabilities and ensure we are well positioned to support our partners and customers as we continue to grow globally.”

“The project underscores Applied Nutrition’s continued investment in infrastructure to support sustained long-term growth.”

In February LBN reported that Coleen Rooney is to strengthen her relationship with Applied Nutrition and further invest in the business.

Early in 2024 Coleen, the wife of former Everton, Manchester United and England Wayne Rooney, began working with Knowsley-based Applied Nutrition (AN) on her range of five health and wellness products.

These have proved successful for AN and in March 2025 the company announced a deal with leading health retailer Holland & Barrett to sell the Coleen Rooney vitamins range in 500 stores.
