Black cab ad service gives free support to Royal Hospital charity

Two Liverpool firms have teamed up to raise funds for The Royal Liverpool Hospital, using a pioneering form of advertising to turn heads and raise awareness.

Open Messenger and Tigweld4u Limited are going the extra mile to support R Charity, using a new taxi advertising service on black cabs around Liverpool. The charity hopes to raise £10m to build an exceptional hospital that will be a community asset to the city.

Advertising company Open Messenger are using high-definition LCD screens mounted on top of Hackney cabs in the city to help promote the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust’s R Charity. The LCD screens use innovative technology that optimises the exposure of advertisements depending on the weather, location and time of day.

Meanwhile Lee Skillan, whose company Tigweld4u Limited manufactures and co-designs the bespoke advertising signs with Open Messenger, is showing his support for the charity by taking on the Great North Run to raise funds for cancer services in the new Royal Liverpool Hospital.

Lee Skillan, director at Tigweld4U, said:

“I’m raising money to say thank you on behalf of a close friend, whose father is receiving cancer treatment at the Royal.

“I suggested R Charity to Open Messenger as a cause to support, so it’s great to be working with their team while helping a charity I’m currently fundraising for. My company has also donated to R Charity through my fundraising, which is a big help towards my £2,000 target.”

The money raised for R Charity by Lee will allow for some of the most up to date and innovative treatments and equipment to be used in the new hospital, giving patients from Merseyside access to some of the best care available in the UK.

Open Messenger, who recently visited the Royal alongside Lee, are hoping their signs will help raise awareness of the R Charity’s £10million goal.

Mike Smith, managing director for Open Messenger said:

“We’re pleased to support R Charity in their appeal to raise £10million. Our taxi cab screens will help to spread their message to more people across Merseyside, as well as finding more fundraisers and generous people to donate their money to the cause.”

R Charity hopes to raise additional funds for the New Royal. To find out more about Lee’s fundraising, visit his JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/lee-skillan1. You can also discover more about Open Messenger by visiting www.open-messenger.com
