Booth Welsh choose Sci-Tech Daresbury as springboard for growth

Booth Welsh, an international integrated engineering service company has chosen Sci-Tech Daresbury as the location of its first office in the North West of England.

Booth Welsh, part of the Clough group of companies whose headquarters are located in the West of Scotland, identified the renowned Cheshire-based campus as the location from which to achieve their UK and international growth plans.

Established in 1989, Booth Welsh is a specialist integrated engineering services company and offers the full spectrum of in-house process, electrical, control & instrumentation services, employing more than 250 technical personnel and delivering solutions to a range of industries for many global blue chip clients across the Oil & Gas, Life Sciences, Power Generation, Utilities and Food & Beverage sectors.  It became part of Australian engineering and project services giant, Clough, in September 2014.

Booth Welsh will initially create employment opportunities for up to 10 people at Sci-Tech Daresbury’s state-of-the-art, Innovation Centre, where they will be taking 500 sq ft of space alongside as many as 100 other companies.

Martin Welsh, Managing Director of Booth Welsh, said:

“As Clough’s Centre of Excellence for Electrical, Control & Instrumentation and Europe & Middle East (EME) regional business, the opening of this office will allow us to accelerate our strategic growth plans both here in the UK and overseas.

“Crucially it gives us greater proximity to our clients and partners in the North West of England and will act as a critical springboard to strengthen these relationships and attract prospective clients.  We conduct a lot of business in industry areas located within the North West of England so this has been a key consideration to taking the step to open a regional office here and realising our ambition for the company going forward.

“We also chose Sci-Tech Daresbury because technology and innovation are inextricably linked to our growth. Not only will we have access to ultra-modern facilities within a well-established engineering community, but also the campus itself enjoys access to national and international transport links and a large talent pool and as our business grows we anticipate creating more high value new jobs.”

Sci-Tech Daresbury is a private-public joint-venture partnership between developer Langtree, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and Halton Borough Council.

The site, which has Enterprise Zone status, is home to technology businesses and globally significant science facilities.

Jayne Furnival, Group Property Director of Langtree said:

“We’re delighted to be welcoming Booth Welsh to Sci-Tech Daresbury and are confident that they will find that it is the perfect environment in which they can meet their business ambitions.

“It’s a great time for Booth Welsh to be opening at Sci-Tech Daresbury as plans to expand the campus gather pace.”

More than 100 businesses currently operate out of Sci-Tech Daresbury, while practical completion of Techspace Two, a two-storey, self-contained building comprising 10,000 sq ft of modern, flexible office space, is due to take place soon. Meanwhile work continues on a larger sister building, Techspace One, which is a three-storey structure with 46,000 sq ft of offices and laboratories due to finish in Autumn 2016.

Martin Welsh added:

“Sci-Tech Daresbury already has a reputation as one of the UK’s leading centres for science and technology businesses and the vision shown by its board is highly attractive to us and we are delighted to be joining a unique community of like-minded businesses with opportunities for further innovation and collaboration.”
