Melbourne Buildings in North John Street, Liverpool

Melbourne Buildings, an office building in Liverpool with a distinctive blue facade, is now fully let after the latest deal.

Acting on behalf of owner Derwent Lodge Estates, agents at Hitchcock, Wright & Partners (HWP) have secured a 914 sq ft letting with the Liverpool Buddhist Centre at the Grade II-listed building in North John Street.

It was built as Melbourne House in 1854 by Sir James A Picton, an architect who was responsible for a number of prominent buildings in Liverpool. Notable work includes the Hargreaves Building in Chapel Street and the Queen Insurance Buildings in Dale Street.

A rooftop extension to the building was added in 1975 and the distinct blue exterior was repainted a few years ago. It was refurbished in 2015 to restore the original features and now provides around 5,000 sq ft of office space across five floors.

There is a mix of businesses resident in Melbourne Buildings and the ground floor of the property is occupied by Shiraz restaurant.

Established more than 25 years ago, Liverpool Buddhist Centre provides teaching for those who want to try meditation and who want be introduced to the central teachings and practices of Buddhism.

It is moving to Melbourne Buildings to establish a permanent base for its activities which include classes, events and courses.

Sean Collins-Jones at Hitchcock Wright & Partners, said: “With its unique exterior, central location and modern facilities, the Melbourne Buildings is a great fit for Liverpool Buddhist Centre.”
