Car dealership breaks through £100m sales barrier

Liverpool used car dealership Motor Range sees revenues surge 14% to £105.3m amid the acquisition of a Greater Manchester outlet. Tony McDonough reports

Liverpool used car dealership Motor Range is reporting a surge in annual revenues in what joint owner Steven Padden described as “encouraging” results.

Motor Outlet (trading as Motor Range) has posted its accounts for the 12 months to August 31, 2025, on Companies House. They show revenues up 14% to £105.3m. Pre-tax profits fell almost 30% to £530,423.

However, this fall can be attributed to the one-off costs associated with a major acquisition of another dealership in Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester in April 2025. It was bought from Sytner, the largest automotive retail group in the UK.

Its Liverpool dealership and headquarters is located in Dunnings Bridge Road, close to Aintree Racecourse. The company also offers motor vehicle servicing, motor vehicle repairs and owns a yacht which it charters through a Greek operator.

Motor Range is owned by brothers Steven and Robert Padden. Writing in the annual report, Steven said: “The directors consider the results to be encouraging, especially when compared with some other competitors, many of whom have sustained significant trading losses over the same period.”

Steven added the company, which employs around 190 people and sold 6,186 vehicles at its Liverpool site during the trading period, was starting to see its investment in the Manchester operation pay off.

He also said that major roadworks on Dunnings Bridge Road had impacted the business with customers being met with “heavy congestion”.

“The directors believe that the company has demonstrated that our results are sustainable and the business trading model is both robust and adaptable to market demands,” said Steven.

“Unlike franchised dealerships, who predominantly retail a single brand and must stock the full range and are also very much dependent on achieving manufacturer new vehicle targets to maximise bonuses, we have the independence to stock any make or model of motor vehicle.”
