A series of events, masterclasses and workshops will showcase the expertise on offer to hospitality and catering students at the City of Liverpool College.
Organised as part of Liverpool city region’s Visitor Economy Week, the programme will demonstrate the variety of opportunities and diverse skills in the sector, in partnership with other colleges in the region.
At the college’s student-run restaurant The Academy, that has a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, Masterchef winner Gary McLean will be hosting a guest dinner, while Baltic Triangle pop-up favourites Finca will be revealing the secrets to their Cubanos success.
The Alchemist’s mixologists will also give a masterclass in making the spectacular cocktails at their popular Brunswick Street venue.
During the week, more than 60 activities are taking place to provide a taste of working in hospitality, retail, tourism and travel. Now in its third year, Visitor Economy Week was created to encourage students to consider the visitor economy as a career choice.
The week is sponsored by the LCR Apprenticeship Hub – a collaborative group aiming to increase the awareness, number and quality of apprenticeships available across the city region.
The Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership visitor economy team supports this week as part of its initiative to help skills development across the sector.
Elaine Bowker, principal of the City of Liverpool College, said: “The visitor economy is a billion pound industry in Liverpool alone and tens of thousands of students work in the sector, some of whom have gone on to earn their Michelin star and have become hugely successful after training at the college.
“Visitor Economy Week is about showcasing what the college does best, the success achieved by former students and our links with businesses.
“Thousands of our students have gone on to work or start their own restaurants in Liverpool and VE Week s a chance for prospective students to come and see how a career in hospitality, retail, tourism and travel can be very rewarding and exciting.”
