Liverpool City Council has started a public consultation on the proposed £5bn regeneration of Liverpool Central Station and the surrounding area.

This short consultation, which closes on Sunday, July 19, has seen the launch of a new online engagement platform to bring together information on the emerging Spatial Regeneration Framework (SRF) for the area.

In May London-based architectural practice Hawkins\Brown was appointed by the city council to develop the SRF. City region Mayor Steve Rotheram wants to use plans for the proposed high-speed rail line between Liverpool and Manchester.

However, both the Combined Authority and the city council are keen to push ahead with the regeneration plans for the 150-year-old station and the surrounding streets regardless of whether the rail line is built. Mr Rotheram is seeking £2.5bn from the Government.

He has has persuaded Chancellor Rachel Reeves to include the scheme in a test programme for how the Government assesses the business cases for major infrastructure projects.

Designed to be clear and accessible, the online engagement has been optimised for mobile use, making it easier for people to explore the area, shape the long-term ambitions, and share their views.

Feedback will help shape the next stages of the project and inform how this important part of the city is transformed in the years ahead.

Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet Member for Growth and Economy, said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to understand the proposals for the Central Station area and have their say on its future.

“This new platform brings together information on the emerging plans in a way that is clear and accessible, so I’d encourage everyone with an interest in the area to take a look and share their views.”
