Digital bank Cashplus is to move into 6,000 sq ft of office space at The Spine in Paddington Village in Liverpool.

Cashplus has signed a three-year deal with Sciontec Developments within its Sciontec AI flexible space facility. Sciontec, operator of Liverpool Science Park and Sensor City, announced it was taking two floors at The Spine in April.

Built for £35m by Liverpool City Council and opened in May 2021, The Spine’s anchor tenant is the Royal College of Physicians. It is occupying 70,000 sq ft of the 200,000 total space.

Based on the second floor, Cashplus will have space for 70 desks. It will also have breakout and informal meeting spaces, a private kitchenette, phone booths and three glass meeting rooms.

Colin Webb, operations director at Cashplus, said: “We have a proud history in the North West. I’m pleased to confirm this commitment to Liverpool for the next phase of Cashplus Bank’s journey.

“We wanted to give our employees an inspiring workplace environment that matches the forward thinking ethos of our company. The Spine in Paddington Village is a standout building that matches our requirements perfectly.

“The proximity of the site to both the local community and Liverpool’s leading universities was another deciding factor for us. We look forward to starting the next chapter of our exciting journey with Sciontec.”

Founded in 2005, Cashplus has served more than 1.6m customers and delivered innovations for small businesses and consumers. The business has plans to create hundreds of new jobs in the Liverpool area over the next five years.

Sciontec is owned by Liverpool City Council, Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool. In May 2020 it was announced that Bruntwood Sci-Tech was taking a 25% stake in the venture in a deal worth £12m.

Colin Sinclair, chief executive of Sciontec, added: “This is a hugely significant deal for Liverpool and the wider city region. It will not only add to the dynamic ecosystem here, but it will be a driver for even greater job creation, economic growth and innovation.

“This landmark deal could not have been done without the support of the Royal College of Physicians. They have backed Sciontec all the way, in creating innovative serviced space within its floors at The Spine.

“Building a community of like-minded businesses who, like us, put people’s health and well-being at the heart of workplace design and management”.
