From summer 2026 low-cost airline easyJet will have its ninth aircraft based at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA).

This comes just months after the carrier, which now operates 39 routes out of LJLA, put an eighth aircraft at the airport. Each Airbus A320 supports around 400 direct and indirect jobs and adds £27m in GVA to Liverpool city region.

In the past week easyJet has launched another two routes from Liverpool – to Lisbon and Paphos – which adds to the eight launched in the last 12 months to Malta, Fuerteventura, Prague, Berlin, Marrakesh, City of Derry, Sharm el Sheikh and Split.

This further boosts the airport which has broken multiple passenger records in 2025. More than 527,000 passengers passed through LJLA last month, making it the busiest October ever.

August 2025 was the busiest month in the 92-year history of the airport with more than 616,000 passengers handled during the peak summer period. This smashed the previous record of 576,000 set a month earlier in July.

John Irving, chief executive at LJLA, said: “This announcement of a ninth based easyJet aircraft in Liverpool is significant news for the airport and the wider city region. 2025 has so far been a record year for the airport with our busiest summer ever.

“This further announcement underpins the strong work and cooperation between easyJet and LJLA, creating new jobs directly at the airport and bringing further indirect investment to Liverpool city region.”

“The new aircraft brings the potential to increase services on existing services and create new routes directly from Liverpool.”

Earlier this week LBN reported that a strong performance from its packaged holidays division has led to better-than-expected annual profits for easyJet.

Kevin Doyle, the airline’s country manager, said “Our success in the North West is a clear testament to the continued popularity of our flights and holidays, with 2.7m customers choosing to fly with us this year.

“The growth of our fleet with an additional aircraft in Liverpool will not only support around 400 jobs but is enabling us to further unlock the opportunity of the demand that we see for both leisure and business travel.

“We are already capturing this opportunity with the launch of two new routes from next summer to offer customers greater choice and exceptional value across our unrivalled short-haul network, and in our 30th year, still aiming to make travel easy.”
