Government announces two new technical schools for the North West

The government has announced two new technical schools to be opened in the North West with aims to fill skills gap in certain sectors.

A University Technical College for engineering and manufacturing will be opened in Crewe and a brand new Studio school will be launched at Deyes High in Sefton for professional and financial services.

The Studio at Deyes High school will cater for 300 students and specialise in professional and financial management; advanced manufacturing and logistics; and digital-business.

The Sefton project is being sponsored by Lydiate Learning Trust and supported by a range of employers from a number of local businesses including Hill Dickinson, Radisson Blu, Merseytravel and Liverpool & Sefton Chambers of Commerce.

The scheme will hopefully address and improve local employment needs and skills gaps.

Chancellor George Osborne said:

“University Technical Colleges are a key part of the Government’s long term economic plan because they help ensure young people have the right skills so they can maximise their potential. The new colleges will provide the next generation of British workers with the skills they need to secure the high tech jobs of the future. This is an excellent example of how we are delivering a sustainable and resilient recovery by laying the foundations for a brighter economic future for the UK.”
