Legacie supports Blair warning over development delays

Liverpool-based property developer Legacie has welcomed comments made by former Prime Minister Tony Blair on the increasing barriers facing developers across the UK. Jennie Lewis reports

Legacie founder and CEO John Morley backs Blair’s call for planning reform

The company, which has delivered a number of landmark residential and commercial projects across the North West, including Liverpool’s Parliament Square, Heaps Mill and The Gateway, as well as Salford’s Embankment Exchange, said Blair was right to highlight the damaging impact excessive regulation and lengthy delays are having on development and investment.

Legacie has delivered 2,500 new homes in Liverpool with a further 1,650 in the pipeline. Founder and CEO John Morley recently told LBN he believes the sector deserves more credit for its contribution.

John believes Blair’s proposals for planning reform could unlock growth across the North West. He adds: “Tony Blair raises an important issue. Too many major developments that could deliver homes, jobs and long-term economic growth are being delayed by unnecessary obstacles.

“Developers across the country are facing increasingly complex planning systems, growing regulatory pressures and significant delays that can hold projects back for years. The result is slower regeneration and missed opportunities for the communities that need investment the most.

“There is a real opportunity for government and local authorities to work more collaboratively with responsible developers to unlock growth, accelerate regeneration and deliver the housing and commercial space the UK urgently needs.

“Policymakers should take Mr Blair’s comments seriously and ensure the planning and regulatory system supports sustainable development rather than restricting it.”

Legacie Developments has played a significant role in the regeneration of key North West locations through large-scale residential and mixed-use developments, helping drive investment, employment and urban renewal across Liverpool and Manchester.
