Housebuilder Hassett Homes has acquired a 1.2-acre plot in an upmarket area of Merseyside where it plans to build nine large family homes.

Liverpool-based Hassett, which in October announced it was raising an extra £20m from Tower Grange Finance to support property schemes across the North West, plans to start work on the development in Wheatstone Road in Formby in the spring.

Founded by Jamie Blennerhassett, the business is already pushing forward with housing schemes in West Derby in Liverpool and at another site in Northwich where it plans to build 33 new homes.

The Formby site stands above the River Alt, with views south west towards Liverpool Bay. Mr Blennerhassett says it has also submitted an amendment to the existing planning permission so that it can build its popular house types.

“Our ambition is to build nine large family homes along the lines of our recent scheme in Eccleston, which proved extremely popular,” he said. “This will be our first development in north Merseyside and we are looking forward to introducing the Formby market to our popular home designs.

“We have an excellent partnership with Tower Grange and are in discussions about the acquisition of a number of other sites in the North West. The market remains strong despite some economic head-winds and we are always seeking well-located sites in good suburbs across the region.”

The scheme is being designed by Stephen Lavin from RAL Architects, with Elluc the appointed project engineers. Laura Harrild from lawyers Glenville Walker advised Hassett Homes on the acquisition.

Hassett Homes said last year that its aim was to become a net zero carbon developer. And it is now working with Liverpool-based Changing Streams CIC with a view to cutting out plastic.
