Liverpool ONE is reporting its ‘best-ever’ festive season for both footfall and sales since the £1bn complex opened in 2008. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool ONE is reporting its strongest-ever festive performance in terms of both footfall and sales in the run up to Christmas 2025.
Its latest figures showed that in the final quarter of 2025, what the retail and leisure sectors call the ‘golden quarter’, there was a 13% increase in footfall compared to the previous year and a 7% rise in sales.
This was the best festive performance since Liverpool ONE first opened in 2008. Performance was especially strong during the period between Christmas Day and New Year, when footfall rose by 15% year-on-year and sales increased by 36%.
This, says Liverpool ONE, represents a shift in consumer habits that has sustained over the last two years. These figures contrast with the national high street picturewhich saw sales down 0.2% and footfall down 0.3%.
Donna Howitt, deputy estate director at Liverpool ONE, said: “We have delivered the strongest golden quarter to date, which is a true testament to the quality of brands and breadth of choice at Liverpool ONE.
“But we know that the success highlights the importance of bringing families together, whether they are enjoying our public spaces, taking part in seasonal activities or combining leisure and hospitality with shopping.”
Liverpool ONE was built and run by Grosvenor until December 2024 when it was acquired by Landsec, the former owner of Liverpool’s St John’s shopping centre in Liverpool. It acquired Abu Dhabi Investment Authority’s 69% stake and Grosvenor’s 23% share.

“We remain focused on strengthening Liverpool ONE’s position as a place to come together, while continuing to evolve our programme of vibrant events planned and our strong retail and leisure offer in line with our visitors’ expectations,” added Donna.
