Liverpool Oxjam gig attracts some of the best in the business

Imagine a room full of people, all having an amazing time, enjoying great music and feeling great because they are helping Oxfam end poverty. Now imagine you’re there in the centre of it, sound appealing?

The latest Liverpool Oxjam offering is taking place at The Baltic Social this Friday, 30th October and the line-up is incredible, featuring local artists Dominic Dunn, The Havocs and Joe Syme and The Loving Kind.

18-year old singer-songwriter Dominic Dunn from Kirkdale is taking Liverpool by storm. Recently named one of the top ten best Liverpool musicians by The Guide, Dom is a real one-of-a-kind with an inimitable sound and style.

Dominic has a number of successful singles under his belt and has played at venues around the city from an early age. He came into the public eye when he was selected to play at the Olympics and Paralympics in 2013; and was further catapulted to fame after he penned the tribute single ‘Angel’ in memory of Hillsborough campaigner Anne Williams.

The Havocs are a 4 piece indie rock band from Liverpool combining the talents of Lowell Carragher, Joe Maddocks, Greg Mullen, and Ben Savin.

The Havocs announced their debut single Tales From Tokyo in August this year via iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music and various other digital mediums. The Single was recorded by Tom Killeen at Spirit Studios in Manchester, a studio favoured by The Stone Roses.

The band performed the single at this year’s Sound City festival to great acclaim from The Low Down magazine, who said ‘It is a perfect snapshot of a band who really knows how to write a memorable and well-crafted song’.

Finally, Joe Symes and the Loving Kind are an original four piece band, also from Liverpool. Formed in 2013 the group has spent the last two years launching what they call ‘an explosive assault’ on UK clubs and festivals.

The band have had the privilege of playing at Noel Gallagher and The High Flying Birds official after show party, have supported Steve Craddock (Paul Weller / Ocean Colour Scene) at the 02 Academy in Liverpool and shared the stage with Bloc Party, Alt J and XFM at Scala in London.

Their debut album released in 2013 came to the attention of Oasis manager Alan McGee, who immediately booked them onto his 359 Records night at District, Liverpool.

The band released their first single in July this year and have enjoyed air time on BBC Introducing. A second album is currently underway for release next year.

Event organiser Paul Wise said:

“The calibre of the acts we’ve managed to line up for the Liverpool Oxjam gig is incredible! I’m both astounded and delighted that we’ve been able to secure some of the best talent this city has to offer.

“Liverpool is, of course, a city known for its musical heritage – but the face of music in the city has changed over the years. It’s no longer about trying to recreate The Beatles, its much, much cooler than that; and the bands and acts we have performing on Friday prove it.

“There’s something to suit a range of tastes, but above all it’s just going to be a really great night for a really great cause. Every penny raised will go towards supporting Oxfam and the fantastic work that they do. I’d urge everybody to come along and support the guys and the cause if they can.”

The Liverpool Oxjam gig starts at 8pm on Friday, 30th October at The Baltic Social on Parliament Street. Tickets are £5 and are available here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/oxjam-charity-gig-tickets-19109870136 – entry on the evening may be more, so book in advance if you can!
