A day after Liverpool John Lennon Airport reported the busiest month for passengers in its 92-year history a new Which? survey reveals it is once again among the top-rated airports in the UK. Tony McDonough reports
It has been a good week for Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) which is celebrating its second piece of good news in the space of 24 hours.
On Thursday LJLA revealed August had been the busiest month for passengers in its 92-year history with 616,000 passengers passing through the terminal. Now a new survey from consumer bible Which? has offered a further boost.
In 2022, 2023 and 2024 the Which? survey of almost 6,000 passengers rated LJLA as the top UK airport for passenger satisfaction. This year it has been narrowly beaten into second place by Exeter Airport but still way ahead of all the country’s large airports.
Which? asked its own members, and members of the public, about their airport experiences over the previous 12 months.
Passengers were asked to rate the airports across 10 categories including customer service, wait for baggage, security queues and availability of seating as well as range of shops and food outlets.
Over the past 12 months Liverpool Airport has installed the latest generation security equipment and introduced a range of new and upgraded food and beverage areas in the departure lounge.

It has earned a Which? customer score of 78% in the latest survey. Passengers praised a quick, efficient process and friendly staff, with Liverpool scoring an impressive five stars for security, bag-drop and check-in.
One traveller praised the security process as “consistently quick and hassle-free”. Another passenger praised the airport as “efficient, clean, easy to navigate, good facilities”.
LJLA chief executive John Irving said: “After a period involving a host of developments and improvements, it’s a tremendous achievement to once again be acknowledged by the travelling public as one of the best airports in the UK and to be a Which? Recommended Provider for the fourth consecutive year.
“We’ve just had our busiest summer ever with passengers enjoying our renowned passenger experience and today’s news is something that everyone who works here is really proud of and is a reflection of all the hard work put in by our staff alongside our dedicated third-party operators.”
